San Diego is filled with stunning trails and walking paths that run parallel to the ocean, offering unobstructed views along the way. Let's dive into some of these scenic routes, so you too can enjoy and take in the ocean on your next walk.

 

Mission Bay Boardwalk: This boardwalk encircles Mission Bay for several miles, providing an ideal setting for a waterside stroll. You'll be walking right alongside the bay, immersing yourself in its beauty and the surrounding scenery the whole way.


Mission Beach Boardwalk: The boardwalk spans several miles and runs parallel to the coast. If you want to watch the waves crash onto shore while walking on a flat, paved surface, this will be your best bet.


San Diego Bay Embarcadero: Revel in a flat, paved stroll along the San Diego Bay, treating yourself to panoramic views of the city skyline. Pass by docked boats, restaurants, and shops along the Embarcadero for a nice waterfront experience.


Point Loma - McCall St. Park to Bessemer Beach: Embark on a gentle walk along San Diego Bay in Point Loma by starting at McCall St Park. Take San Antonio Avenue to the Bessemer Path, leading you to Bessemer Beach. The route takes you through a charming bayside neighborhood, in addition to walking alongside the bay. The roundtrip walk is approximately 1.5 miles.

San Diego Bay Embarcadero: Revel in a flat, paved stroll along the San Diego Bay, treating yourself to panoramic views of the city skyline. Pass by docked boats, restaurants, and shops along the Embarcadero for a nice waterfront experience.

La Jolla Tide Pools to La Jolla Cove: Walk along the coast-hugging sidewalk from the La Jolla Tide Pools to La Jolla Cove. Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the ocean, with waves crashing against the rocks and seals adding a unique soundtrack to your stroll.


Coastal Rail Trail: Running parallel to the coast, this trail offers ocean views with two popular sections. The first extends from Swami's area in Encinitas to Chesterfield Dr. in Cardiff, covering about 1.5 miles one way. The second section spans from Chesterfield Dr. in Cardiff to Solana Beach, with a street/highway crossing at Chesterfield Dr. for those continuing onward.


Carlsbad Promenade: Enjoy a scenic walk along the bluffs in Carlsbad, paralleling the beach. The oceanside sidewalk spans over 1.5 miles.

 


With multiple options for gentle walks along the coast, you can accumulate steps and enjoy the proximity to the water on all these picturesque routes.
