Coronado Beach is a highly sought after destination offering a relaxing and fun experience for everyone. Coronado is unlike anywhere else along the San Diego Coast, making it a favorite for many.
Overall Score: 6.6/10
In this review, I've assessed various factors, including parking, crowd levels, cleanliness, water quality, safety, amenities, and activities, resulting in an overall score for Coronado Beach of 6.6/10. You can dive deeper into each of these individual scores on this page. Keep reading for a short summary of each score.
Parking - 5/10: Coronado has a lot of street parking available in residential areas. However, during busy times it can be difficult to find a spot close to popular attractions such as the beach or restaurants and shops. If you get there early enough you can find a spot somewhere on the island, but during peak times it can be very congested and crowded. Overall, it's not terrible but not great either.
Crowds - 6/10: Coronado's beauty attracts a large number of visitors, making certain areas feel crowded. Nonetheless, with a little effort and exploration, it's possible to discover less crowded spots, earning Coronado Beach a 6/10 in the crowd department.
Amenities - 7/10: Coronado Beach gets a 7/10 for the amenities it offers due to there being bathrooms, food, and shops within walking distance regardless of where you are on the beach. Some areas are way closer to these amenities (such as by the Del vs North Beach), but it is still walkable nonetheless.
Safety - 9/10: Coronado Beach is considered relatively safe, thanks to constant lifeguard patrols and its calm atmosphere. Incidents of bad behavior are rare; however, it's always advisable to exercise caution when enjoying nature and public spaces.
Beach Cleanliness - 9/10: Coronado Beach is very well maintained and the beach gets cleaned frequently. It's not typical to find a lot of dry seaweed or trash on the beach. However, you may encounter some after high tide or if people leave trash behind.
Water Quality - 4/10: The water quality for Coronado Beach receives a below average rating due to its proximity to the Tijuana river and the sewage and contaminants that circulate towards the beach. There are often advisories, warnings, or beach closures due to this.
Activities - 6/10: Coronado Beach leans more towards tranquility than being a hub of water sports and activities, especially when compared to some other San Diego beaches. Land-based activities are more prevalent here, warranting a 6/10 rating.
All in all, Coronado's rating of 6.6/10 can be misleading; it's a beautiful beach with a lot to offer. If you're looking for a peaceful beach day, you won't find much that is better than this. If you're looking for a more action-packed day, experiences can vary greatly depending on which part of the beach you're at. Regardless, Coronado Beach will always be one of our favorite escapes!
